Mother & Baby Yoga in Vilnius: Benefits for You and Your Baby

Having a baby changes almost everything — including your relationship with your own body, your time and your yoga practice.

For many new mothers, the idea of returning to a regular yoga class can feel unrealistic. Who looks after the baby? What happens if they need feeding halfway through? What if they cry? And after pregnancy and birth, jumping straight back into the kind of practice you did before may not feel right anyway.

Mother & Baby Yoga offers another possibility: you bring your baby with you.

At Yoga Loftas, the emphasis is on creating a relaxed space where mothers can return to movement, breathing and yoga without having to separate that time from being with their baby.

A Gentle Return to Movement

After pregnancy and birth, many women simply want an opportunity to begin moving again without pressure.

Mother & Baby Yoga uses gentle yoga movement, breathing and relaxation to help you reconnect with your body at your own pace.

There is no expectation that you need to be flexible, strong or already experienced in yoga. The class is about gradually rediscovering movement and enjoying what your body can do now rather than trying to immediately return to where it was before pregnancy.

Your Baby Is Part of the Class

This is perhaps the biggest difference from a conventional yoga class.

Babies don’t follow yoga timetables.

They may sleep. They may watch. They may want to be held. They may need feeding or changing just as everybody settles down for relaxation.

And that’s fine.

You can practise with your baby beside you and involve them in parts of the class where appropriate. Feeding, changing, cuddling and taking breaks are all part of the experience rather than interruptions to it.

For many mothers, simply knowing that nobody expects their baby to remain quiet for 75 minutes makes it considerably easier to relax.

Time to Breathe

The physical side of yoga is only part of the class.

Conscious breathing and quieter moments give you an opportunity to slow down, pay attention to yourself and step temporarily outside the constant demands of looking after a small child.

Sometimes even a few minutes of breathing with awareness can feel surprisingly valuable when much of your day is organised around somebody else.

Meeting Other Mothers

There is also a social element that shouldn’t be underestimated.

Early motherhood can sometimes be strangely isolating. You may be surrounded by people and yet spend a great deal of time alone with your baby.

A regular class creates an easy way to meet other mothers who are going through a similar stage of life — without needing to arrange childcare or organise a separate social event.

And because everyone has brought a baby, everyone understands when plans don’t go perfectly.

Something You Can Enjoy Together

Mother & Baby Yoga isn’t simply a normal yoga class where babies happen to be present.

There are opportunities for interaction, eye contact, touch and playful movement, allowing the class to become something you experience together.

You get time for yourself without needing to leave your baby behind.

Mother & Baby Yoga in Vilnius

Dedicated Mother & Baby Yoga is still a relatively uncommon class format in Vilnius, so we’re happy to be developing it as part of the programme at Yoga Loftas.

Classes are taught in English by Sruti, whose approach is warm, supportive and adaptable. The aim is to create an environment where mothers can move comfortably, babies can simply be babies, and neither needs to perform.
