FAQ

# Frequently Asked Questions - Aerial & Vinyasa Yoga Vilnius

What Is Aerial Yoga?

Aerial yoga is a dynamic yoga practice performed in a silk hammock (suspension fabric) suspended from the ceiling. The hammock supports your body weight, allowing you to decompress your spine, invert safely, and explore poses that would be difficult or impossible on the ground. You're moving, stretching, and strengthening while suspended in the air - it's both playful and deeply therapeutic

Who Can Do Aerial Yoga?

Are There Age Restrictions?

We don't have strict age limits, but it depends on maturity and comfort level. Children (8+) can generally participate if they're comfortable with heights and can follow instructions. We offer Mother & Baby yoga for very young children with parents. For teens and adults, there's no upper age limit - aerial yoga is accessible at any age and many older practitioners love it for the decompression benefits.

If you're interested in bringing a child, **email us at info@oroyogaloftas.com** to discuss age and what class would be best.

Are There Height or Weight Restrictions?

No. The hammocks are designed to safely support a wide range of body types and sizes. Whether you're 5'2" or 6'6", 50kg or 150kg, aerial yoga works for you. The fabric and suspension system are engineered for durability and safety across all body types.

If you have specific concerns about your body and what's comfortable for you, just let your instructor know before class - they'll help you feel confident.

I'm Not Very Flexible - Is That An Issue?

Not at all. In fact, many people come to aerial yoga *because* they're not flexible and find it hard to do traditional yoga. The hammock actually helps you stretch safely because it supports your body, so you can relax deeper into stretches without forcing anything. You don't need flexibility to start - flexibility is something you build over time with practice. Every 'body' is welcome exactly as it is

Aerial Yoga vs. Traditional Yoga

What are aerial yoga's specific benefits, particularly compared to traditional yoga?

**Deep spinal decompression** - The hammock lengthens your spine naturally, relieving pressure on discs and nerves. This is huge for back pain.

**Inversion benefits without the effort** You get the lymphatic and circulatory boost of being upside-down without needing the arm strength of a headstand.

**Better spinal alignment** Hanging in the hammock resets your posture and alignment in ways flat stretching can't match.

**Deeper relaxation** Being cradled in fabric triggers your parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest). You'll feel calmer faster.

**Low-impact stretching** The hammock supports you, so you can stretch deeper without risk of overstretching or joint strain.

**Accessible inversions** People who can't do traditional inversions (headstands, shoulder stands) can still enjoy the benefits.

**Benefits shared with traditional yoga:**

- Increased flexibility

- Core and functional strength

- Better body awareness

- Stress relief and calm

- Improved breathing

**Verdict:** Aerial yoga is superior for spinal health and relaxation. Traditional yoga is superior for building pure strength. Ideally, do both. Which you can at this studio!

Can aerial yoga be practised during pregnancy?

It depends on how far along you are and your comfort level.

**Early pregnancy (first trimester):** Generally safe. The gentle movements and decompression can actually help with back pain and nausea.

**Second trimester and beyond:** As your belly grows, inversions and deep hammock stretches become uncomfortable or unsafe. However, lighter, non-inversion classes (like gentle vinyasa or restorative poses) are often still fine.

**Important:** **Always consult your midwife or doctor first.** Every pregnancy is different. Once you have clearance, tell your instructor you're pregnant so they can offer modifications and avoid poses that don't feel right.

We also offer **Vinyasa Yoga for Mother & Baby** - specifically designed for postpartum recovery and bonding with your little one.
